Race Report : Infineon

We started our weekend out at Infineon by participating in the Thursday afternoon promotor practice. Our Team Latus Motors Buell 1125R showed encouraging speed right from the start. We were able to make a few chassis changes to make our rider, Taylor Knapp comfortable and get some useful laps in.

Friday morning we suffered a minor set back with a mechanical failure during morning warm up. However we were able to make a quick recovery and switch to our back up bike that was prepared and ready to go. Although Taylor was not as comfortable on the back up bike as our primary bike he was able to qualify in the 12th position narily missing superpole.

Saturday we experience unusually high temperatures for the bay area this early in the year. During the race we struggled with extremely high engine temperatures causing us to retire prematurely from the race. We worked into the night Saturday evening to prepare a machine that would be more capable of dealing with the exhausting heat on Sunday.

Sunday’s races were as we expected. The heat would prove to be a problem for everyone. After a mediocre start Taylor began to put his head down and move up through the field. The changes we had made Saturday night were able to keep our Buell 1125R on track and keep it from overheating. This allowed Taylor to steadily make progress and work his way into the top ten. Eventually chasing down and passing fellow Buell rider Danny Eslick to finish in 9th position overall for the weekend.

After a weekend of racing at Infineon we will go to the next round at Road America in 11th position of the AMA Daytona Sportbike Series. We would like to thank our new lubricant sponsor Silkolene for coming on board for the remainder of this Daytona Sportbike Season. We are confident their product will help us to continue to work our way up and have a successful season.
