I just bought a second hand Harley Davidson Softail Herritage (1996 model), the condition of this bike was excellent.

I have the following questions which i need some expert to advise me.

I have to work in overseas for few months (about 4 to 5 months), and i am worry about how to maintain my bike during this period. Since my wife dun know how to periodically warm up the engine of my bike, and there is no one can help me to start up the engine in order to warm up the engine of my bike, that's mean my bike will be stay idle there for few months, under this circumstance, what should i do?

Some of my friend advise me that i need to fill the tank of my bike with unlead petrol up to full tank and turn the fuel pipe switch to OFF position and then start the engine and let the engine die after consume all the remaining fuel through out the pipe, is this method correct?

I also called Harley Davidson service centre and ask for their consultation, what they reply is that it is ok to park my bike there stay for idle without even start up the engine periodically even for a year or more and it is not advisable to periodically start up the engine for Harley bike without riding it on the road, this will cause problem to the engine, is this true?

Will my bike be any problem (like oil leaking, engine problem) if i will let my bike remain idle for few months without starting up the bike to warm up the engine?

Do i need to do overhaul for my bike after few months when i will go back my hometown?

It is neccesary to remove the battery from bike ? The current battery on my bike is not genuine Harley's product, so i dun mind to let the battery die as i plan to buy an original genuine Harley-Davidson's battery later.

Appreciate any reply.
