forward controls

i just got an 08 super glide custom, and want to put on forward controls. the dealer was going to charge 3.5 hrs labor at $89 an hour. they said the primary cover needs to be removed. is this true? has anyone just orded the parts and put them on yourself?

Hi Jay I've never done this upgrade to a super glide, since you are moving the controls from mid to forward the outer primary will need to be removed to remove the shifter shaft and to plug the hole in the inner primary. If your handy with tools and have a service manual for your bike to give you instructions on removing covers I don't see why you couldn't do the job IMO.
