Hi Mike, I am taking in my 2007 SEUC for the heads and gasket product enhancement from Harley. The dealer says they are puting in new pistons and rings and maybe cylinders. They feel this will illiminate the knocking sound in my motor. The bike was dyno tuned by Dyno Jet here in Vegas, (I have a power commander). They are going to check the tune after I break in the new pistons and rings. I don't have the luxury to be able to bring it to you for your dyno break-in. My question is 3 fold.

Do I break it in different if I have new cylinders or they use the old cylinders?

Can you give me an explanation on how to break it in for the work I am having done?

How many miles should I put on it before I take it back to Dyno Jet to let them check the tune?

Thanks again for all of your help!!

Mike

Break in for new rings is basically what not to do:
Do not overrev the motor (4500rpms or less)
No extended steady state-like freeway (vary the throttle)
No heavy loads where wide throttle openings are required to move the bike (lugging)
Do not do any of above for the first 500 miles and all should be good to go to dyno.

Do close the throttle and let coast every now and then.
Do run the motor in a gear and rpm where it seems happy with the least amount of load.
Do open the throttle once in awhile to put some load on the rings (try to be off throttle for as long as you were on immediately after). Picture running up a small hill then coasting down the other side with the throttle closed.
