The rear cam bearing on my Ultra Classic went out. Discovered HD had a fix, consisting of new cam plate, cams, bearings, and oil pump. Decided to get it. Installed it myself using borrowed tools from motorcycle mechanic buddy and my lift. Started right up after install, but had no oil pressure. Shut down immediately. Talked to HD mechanic at Stealer. He said could be oil pump alignment, and I needed to use alignment screws.

Tore everything back down, and used borrowed alignment screws to align oil pump. Rotated rear wheel, and oil almost immediately began to flow out of oil sending port (I had the sending unit removed for this test). I thought all would be well. So proceeded to put all back together.

Cranked it up. RATS! NO OIL PRESSURE!! Oil light on at idle. It would go out at 1500 RPM, but oil pressure hardly registered on dash gauge or on manual shop gauge. Before tearing down, I had idle pressure about 5 psi, at 2000 RPM about 35psi.

I am about to pull my hair out! confused:

QUESTIONS:
1) How long should engine have to run before oil filter fills up and lifters pump up?
2) Should I just run it for a while at 1500 rpm (oil light out, little or no pressure indicated) and see if any air locks, or debri or whatever breaks loose?
3) Other comments on what might be the problem?

Thanks.

Its a shame that you received no replies. I would be really interested in the solution.
