Here are pictures from a bored set of cylinders. There is a scuff that can be felt with a finger nail. The shop says it's from a bore guage and the marks will be gone 5 sec. after running the engine. Are they right? Is this acceptable? Would you be happy with the work? Any other comments or opinion?

I have not seen a dial bore gauge leave marks that could be felt with your finger nail. I am suspect. However without really seeing it in person I would hesitate to make a judgment. Get a second opionon from someone in person, or drop by and let me take a look at it.

Thank you for your input. I understand that someone would have to look at them in person to make the best judgement, but do you think this is normal or even acceptable for brand new work? Is this something that is common to see?

I am a machinist and use bore gauges all the time, what you see is quite normal. That mark is there because the guage was set tight but he is right that it will dissapear in a few seconds after running it.
