Hi Mike,

My 08 Ulta will be in for a leaking barrel at the case. I bought the 103/SE255 cam kit to have put in while it's down and some of the labor is covered. While it's down I plan to clean up the combustion chambers and ports, no major changes just a clean up.

The kit appears to come with the thick head gasket. Would it help to go with the thinner head gasket and bump the compression a little? I know these are low tq cams, but would doing this cause pinging?

I appreciate your thoughts and will see you soon,

Chris Richter

If you have SERT and plan on custom mapping, you could raise the compression slightly. We've run 9.7 with the 255's with no problems but tuning has to be spot on and may require some "tweaking" if ping occures. Without SERT we would not increase compression (even lowering it).

Thanks for the reply Mike.

You guys tuned it for Stg I with the SERT, Fatcat quiet baffle. It sounds like I should just use the gaskets that come with the kit. I don't think they state what the kit sets the compression at. Would this be at the 9.7 or would you need the .030 gasket to get there? I also understand the stock push rods will be ok. I looked in the parts book and the stock 96" uses the same ones as CVO bikes.

Thanks again, Chris

Advertised compression is 10.0 but really more likely 9.8. Still high for the 255's, but this the SE stg 2 103 kit and seems to be working. Do not be surprised if the tune done during the cold winter days requires adjustments for ping when the hot summer days come in. We would not charge for these adjustments once custom mapped, if needed.

Stock pushrods OK!
