Mike,

I am at the begining of a build of a Blast motor that will be run at Bonneville. Eventually, the motor will be fuel injected (MegaSquirt / XB throttle body) and Turbo-charged. I'm afraid I'm on the steep learning curve on the Blast motor, and need some advice about what ignition to use. I need adjustable 'maps' or curves, and an adjustable rev limiter. I may use a XM head on this motor, at any rate it will have different springs and will (hopefully) rev to ~ 7,500. Do Sportster/Buell V-Twin ignition modules / coils work, or does it have to be Blast specific?

Thanks, Ken

We've used twin cylinder ignitions like Daytona Twin Tec or Dyna 2000i. We've also used twin coils and simply ground the extra outlet (do not cap off). We use the EV style rotor cup for a twin. The rear cylinder spark occurs on the exhaust stroke and is not a problem. Some single fire systems could be adapted but gets complicated with rotor cups and pickups.

The Daytona and others offer switched curves or full laptop programming (typically, optional cabling and software).

Thanks Mike. I figured the second "wasted" spark would really be a wasted spark on a single!

PS Is Ron & Bob's Orange Blast still at the shop? I need to get back down and drool..er look at it again. ;-)

Since it is not under pressure (grounded) the wasted spark requires very little energy to fire so the majority of the spark energy goes to the plug under pressure.

Yep, working on motor build plan now.
