Why does it seem like so many people are after hp numbers instead of torque as this is what gives the great feel of a hard pull?

Yep, this is exactly why I've been going on about the 255 cams lately. You'll have to read the other posts because I'm sure I'm starting to sound like a broken record.

What has changed is the rpm range bikes are now expected to run in. This is a result of the 6 speed trans, primary and final drive ratio changes. The good news is, that because of this, people are rediscovering what tq is all about. Look our dyno library and study the 110 charts. Stock bikes with just an exhaust and air cleaner will make more tq from 1500-2500 than heavily built motors. In some cases, it take a comparison to a 120ci motor to see higher tq numbers in this specific area. So then the question is, how do we improve tq from 1500-2500? Right where the new bikes spend much of their life. Thats proved to be a tough nut ot crack! Agian, looking only at 1500-2500. It's still very easy to make big numbers above that, but that also requires the owners to modify there riding style or regear the bike to run in higher rpms routinely. Two things owners of the new bikes have been resisting, so we're back to trying to improve that very low rpm tq. Which is what they feel in the seat of the pants and this is what many owners want, right off idle in high gear.
