Hello Mike. Considering on switching the 32 tooth compensating sprocket on my 07 Dyna to a 30 tooth evolutions industries sprocket. Any performance problems with this modification and what is the compensators function.
Thanks, john
The compensators function is to take the shockloading of the drive train out of the crankshaft. Hard mounting the sprockets causes impact hammer type shockloads to be directly transmitted into the crank sprocket shaft which can lead to loosening comp nut, more vibration, alternator magnets coming loose and shifting of the flywheels with sudden rpm changes. Many of our early Performance Machine wide tire bikes eleminated the compensator and we had all the above issues until PM changed the kit to retain the compensator. For racing ,this is OK but for street use, we're a little nervous. I love the idea of reducing the primary drive ratio and the mass of the motor sprocket but those who choose to run without the compensator should be aware of the risks. Should make better dyno numbers. FYI, the stock motorsprocket is 34t if your doing gearing calculations.

I tired the EVO 30T on my 08 FXSTSSE rode it 30 miles or less. Going back to the compensating sprocket and will give EVOs new 49t clutch/ flywheel spocket a try.. (stock 46t).
