Hey Mike-My dad, Jerry-jllapour@yahoo has been talking about you for months. I would like to tap into your expertise. Great web forum, you have so much knowledge. Congrats on the May 07 Am. Iron article. I would like to do something similar. I have a thunderheader exhaust, SE air cleaner and race tuner. I definitely need low end torque as most of my riding is town or daytrips. We tour once a year in the west. What would you reccomend? Do you think the Las Vegas HD shop could pull off what you did in the Am. Iron Article? What are we looking at for parts cost? I trust your direction and would like to use the parts you and your buddy Baisley designed . There was no mention of changing the cams. Looking forward to your response. Thanks for everything. Brian
Thank you for the kind words. Unfortunately the T-header goes contrary to the low end torque with a big dip around 2.6k. Good new is much of this can be cured by bending two of the vanes in the baffle flat out to the sides of the muffler. Big gain in low end torue with very little high end hp loss.
The 113 motor build is not for the faint of heart at around 8k for just the motor alone. We would do it a little different next time with stock H-D lifters, Timken conversion and maybe slightly milder heads, mostly to keep costs more reasonable. The cams used were T-man 650's. We've run this same combo in 117's and 120's with 145-150hp and so were a little disappointed with "only" 130. I was truely expecting 140 minimum but realizing this was an 07 with the drivetrain losses resulting from the overdriven primary and 6 speed trans, these numbers actually agree with those expected losses vs earlier 5 speed drive trains. It may turn out that others will struggle to get similar numbers from 07's.
We can put together a special custom build list just for your application if you like and we can and do ship motors.
Cannot speak to Las Vegas' abilities, sorry.
Mike
