Mike, in an earlier post you advised me that although you were a big fan of the SERT, it was probably not worth it to switch from a PCIII to a SERT to deal with a torque dip (Thunderheader 2into1) and pinging problem under heavy load. I have an 05 Road King with 95" kit, SE performance heads, SE flat top pistons, S&S 570G cam & SE 6 speed. The bike bogged down in 6th gear unless going 85+ (which is not a good habit). I took the bike back to the PC tuner three times and he could not correct the problem - dyno'd at 85 hp & 94 torque.
I consulted with another shop and they convinced me that they could cure the problem if I changed to a SERT. I suspected I might be suckered into spending more money, but figured it was worth a shot because I really wanted to be able to use my 6th gear without having to go 80+ or hear the engine ping. What a difference. Their first dyno run with the P.C. were the same as above. When they installed the SERT, the bike dyno'd at 92.28 H.P. and 99.68 torque. Now I can use 6th gear at 70 with no pinging or bogging and the engine sounds so much smoother, particular when deaccelerating - no decel popping, infact it sounds like I've turned the ignition off it's so smooth. The accleration is just what I hoped for when I did the build.
I realize this may all be attributed to the ability of the tuners, (not many to chose from in ca anymore), but the guy who did the P.C. does a lot of them and has a reputation of being the most knowledgeable P.C. tuner in my area. Turns out it was well worth the cost, at least for me. As always, thanks for the quality info you give and thought you'd appreciate the feedback.
