Mike I have a 2000 dyna FXDS with a stock Keihin Carb, had a real bad spit cough and talked to a mech he said install a dyno jet thunderslide which I did, also replaced intake gaskets and had carb rebuilt, its better now but still coughs not as much though the needle is at the third position and main jet is 185 pilot jet 45 also replaced plugs and wires it has better throttle responce and idels great but when gets warm likes to cough . what is your thought on this and what may I do to correct this?if its the carb what would be the right one to put on it its a TC88 pretty well stock except the air cleaner and exhaust not drag pipes though.what would you recommened the S&S E or G or the Mikuni42 eveyone says the S&S is a great carb but the also said the thunderslide would take care of the problem to thought I would ask an expert and see what U thoght Thanks for the Help By the way great Site.

The CV 40 are typically a pretty good carb. i asssume you mean coughs when held at steady rpms. Coughing when blipping the throttle can be normal for some carbs and very difficult to completely solve. I would suggest to go to a 48 LS jet and back the idle mixture screw out 1/2 turn. Did the motor idle speed pick up? If it did, continue to back the mixture screw out until no difference in idle speed is seen or idle speed starts to drop off, then adjust back in to where idle is "happiest". This typically takes care of the cough. If you wish to change carbs go with the Mikuni, much better than the S&S.
Thanks for the kind words, Mike

Thanks mike for the info, I forgot to tell you that it pops and coughs threw the carb we starting it when its hot also after its sit at a red light for a couple of minutes sometimes when you give it a little throttle, dont know if this will help just thought I would explain it a little more. seem to run fine going done the road. which mikuni would u recommend the 42 or 45? I asume you are taking about the pilot jet? going to a 48. I'll try that first Thanks Again
