View Full Version : PC or Race Tuner
I have a 05 with V&H Ovals and the SE air filter along with the dealer stage one download. I really don't plan to add anything else at this time. Would I gain much by going to the PC or the sert with one of your maps, and if so, do you recommend the PC or sert? Long time lurker here but this is my first question, and you sure seem to know more about this stuff then anyone else I have spoke with.

Thanks
Thanks for the kind words, we're still learning daily. You should have some sort of tuning device to compensate for the difference of the V&H exh, the stg downloads are correct for H-D mufflers only. I'm a huge fan of Race Tuner but the Power Commander will work equally as well for your application since you'r not planning major future changes. Power Commander has a very big map file data base for free downloads and is very user friendly.

Thanks for the quick reply. As i understand the maps you have for sale for the PC are custon, that is front/rear tune etc. I have read your disclamer and understand that, but in your opinion, yould I be better off with your custom map, or just the one that PC has for my set up? I know this is a loaded question, as you are in business to make money, but the opinions you give appear to be very honest. Also I have read a little about power commander's failing, have you ran into any of this, and care to guess on what the life of a PC may be?
Thanks again
Most of our maps are for Screamming Eagle Race Tuners but we do have a smaller PC file. We just do not do as many as we used to (though we are a PC tuning center), I'm just a bigger fan of the SERT and so tend to recommend them vs PC (also an H-D product), but I do not recommend removing PC's to install SERT unless there are valid reason for so doing. I'll always recommend custom mapping but with PC's online map library, you can pick and choose until you find one that appears to work for your application. But that's the rub, without dynoing (custom mapping) you really cant know how correct the overall (part throttle) mapping is.
Failures do happen, as with any mechanical or electronic device, but the new USB's have proved to be pretty robust. Much of the PC failure fears are based on historical problems that have long been corrected. Failures tend to be more component related than milage, so they in theory will last the life of the bike. If a PC fails, you can unplug it from your ECM but then would at least need the most appropriate SE reflash cal to allow continued running without the PC. This is why we recommend an ECM reflash even when using PC's, unfortunaley this adds $149.95 to the total cost but is good insurance.
