On D&D website they now have a "what's new" blurb about the quiet baffle for Fatcat. They say that testing has shown that the quiet baffle produces MORE tq and hp than the std baffle with 50% less noise.

Mike,

I thought I read here somewhere that you had done a similar test and found the numbers were WORSE everywhere? (I know you tested the Boarzilla with the QB and it was all good).

Any idea why the discrepancy?

Thanks,
Sean

They have been doing a LOT of testing lately and we have yet to test their latest verions. Our tests were done with the earlier style baffles and should not be compared to the new, completely different design. Hope to try them soon as we are trying to be pro-active with noise reduction.

You will have my bike in 3 weeks for a dyno tune, it has a D&D Fatcat w/standard baffle that was just shipped from D&D about 3 weeks ago. Feel free to experiment with it after you have it tuned.......

And if you do, and the quiet baffle works out better, leave the damn thing in there and sell it to me!

How did it work out? I am in the process of installing a Fatcat on my 05 Roadglide. I am curious to know if you tried the quiet baffle and the results?

They were pretty stacked up with bikes they neeeded to get on the dyno, and I only let them have it for a day, so it didn't happen. I may buy one and see how it does. I can let one of the local shops do a couple of before and after pulls on their dyno for comparison probably. I haven't been able to find the baffle on D&D's site though. Where you able to?

The Fatcat is pretty damn load, even if I lose a couple, I think the quieter baffle may be worth it.

I haven't been able to find the baffle number either. Checking with the Parts guys...........

Let me know what you hear. I need to check with Mike and see if he thinks my tune will need to be changed with that baffle.

Will do.

We get the quite baffles directly from D&D and they are not listed on their site. Changing will not adversly affect the mapping, it'll get richer and fuel milage may not be optimized but otherwise OK. We're working hard on our dyno backlog issue's (of couse being at school and racing does not help).

Have you noticed the quiet baffle being much more quiet as D and D claims? The stock baffle is pretty loud in my opinion.

Installed the Fatcat on my 05 Roadglide 95". Torque hits over 90 at 2500 rpm and peak is 95. The torque is also very flat across the rpm. Haven't been able to ride it yet, but it should rock now.

Yup, that's flat alright! You can't really ask for a better torque curve. Bet your glad you made the switch.......

I sure am, haven't heard it yet. I don't think it could be any worse than the Thunderheader I had on my Dyna or the Pro Pipe that's on there now.

I picked up the bike last night, and it is loud! Sound level is somewhere in the neighborhood of the V&H Propipe and T-Header.

Torque is awesome, this bike is fun to ride.

I am going to continue to watch here, I think I would like to install the quiet baffle, but hate the thought of more dyno time. Once Mike gets it all figured out, it might be worth stopping by on a trip to get it tuned.

Your OK changing to the quiet baffle without a remap as the bike will go slightly richer vs the std baffle, though remapping will fully optimize the combo with the new baffle. Nothing to figure out, it would map like any other.

Thanks Mike, I ordered mine today. Sounds like a bit of work to change it, but should be worth it.

Thanks

I finally got around to installing the quiet baffle tonight, only took about an hour. Take s a bit of banging to get the other baffle out and the new one in.

Love the sound, and my wife will probably ride with me again.

I did a 1000 mile ironbutt run last week and my head felt like it was going to explode from listening to those pipes all day. The stock baffle is louddddd!, even louder than the Thunderheader I had on my wideglide. This is going to be much better. I took it for a quick ride and it seems to be running with no problems. When I get a chance I'll get it remapped.

I maybe should have posted this somewhere else but I hope you find it here and can help Mike. Not sure if I'm going nuts, but I am sure frustrated. Put a lot of money into my 95" and I am unhappy. Hope I can keep this short.

I took the bike in to get it tuned for the quiet baffle last week. I also asked them to figure out how to get rid of an annoying miss that has been plaguing the bike since at least the build if not longer. When i ride between about 2200 - 2500 rpm with no load on the engine and the throttle just off idle (like whenever I'm cruising down a flat road) I can hear what seems to be the engine missing, I can feel the momentary loss of momentum, and you can hear the odd pop. It happens in all gears. This has been present at least since the build about 1 1/2 years ago. It has been present with the S&S SPO's, Fatcat and now the FatCat with quiet baffle. As soon as you roll the throttle on the miss disappears.

The bike has been in twice for leaking valve seals (in 23,000 miles), the first time at about 7500 miles and the last one installed this spring at the same time I had them install the fatcat. They tuned it and got pretty good numbers 96 hp and 98 torque with a nice curve, but still with the aggravating miss. The pipe was very loud so I ordered the quiet baffle. I asked them to first tune the bike for the quiet baffle and then try to figure out the miss. They keep trying to tune it out and ended with 93 hp and 91 torque, and of course the miss. After riding it for the weekend I took it in today to bitch about the miss. They said the miss was caused by the high lift cam allowing exhaust to back up into the cylinder during the valve overlap and this was normal, just ride it harder, stay out of that light cruise zone. So I've I got a 95 that isn't performing the way i think it should and a near constant miss.

Are they right? Is this normal for these cams? Am I crazy? The bike is an 05 FLTRI with 95" jugs, Woods TW6HG cam, FatCat with quiet baffle, SE air cleaner. They told me compression should be about 9.5:1 I know there are lots of these cams sold, and I can't imagine there are lots of guys riding around with smiles on their faces while the bike goes bup, bup, bup, bup.

I hope this makes sense, and you can tell me if this is normal. I've dumped over $5000 into the engine and it's had at least 130 dyno runs to this point. My wife's sick of us throwing money at it, with little results. Someone suggested it might be the injectors, but the guys at the shop don't think so.

HELP!

I could be wrong, but With a good performance cam, I don't think you will see smoothness at the very low RPM's. I think compression compounds the affect, also. Like I said, I could be wrong.......

I forgot to also mention that the heads are stock 05 units that were ported & polished.
