have 01 electraglide classic. bought the HDMOCO cruise control kit and instructions show it is the latest update as of March 2000.

Either directions have an error or bike is wired wrong from factory (per hdmoco tech line-they're not sure).

page 4 of 8 item two. SET / RESUME switch install.

Install set /resume switch wires into cavities 11&12 of connector [22] as follows (see fig 11 for connector location) (these wires are blue /black and white/blue)

Now fig 11 is a view looking into the front fairing looking at the back of the gauges etc.
connector 22 is mounted at approx 5:oo to the right speaker.
and over on the otherside at approx 7:00 to the left speaker is another connector labeled:
Cruise harness to the interconnect harness connector [6]

Now in figure 12 is a wiring schematic of the CRUISE HARNESS this was installed and attached to the cruise control module mounted to left side of battery box under left cover.
Now the FREE CONNECTOR end of this harness is labeled: TO INTERCONNECT HARNESS [6A]

Now reading the color codes of the wires in this harness and the pin numbering, this harness connector [6a]
connects into interconnect harness ultra overlay connector [6b] (labeled as such per 01flht service manual).

the wiring color codes and where each wire is located is the same on both plugs, and before the cruise installtion was / is the ONLY available connector to connect to.

Now here is the confusion / problem.
directions indicate the blue /black wire should go into cavity 12 of the cruise control harness.
this cavity is blank and plugged from the factory.
However the matching cavity on the bike interconnect harness this pin/ cavity is ALSO empty,
So putting the wire where the directions say to would not do anygood.

Now the directions say to put the white/ blue wire into cavity 11 of the cruise control harness.
However, there is a white / green wire there that per service manual schematic goes to the radio (so probably should NOT remove this one) . The same white / green wire is also in cavity 11 of the bikes interconnect harness.
Ok you follow so far?

Now in the cruise harness connector [6a] and in the bikes original interconnect harness connector [6]
in cavities 9 is a blue / black wire ( like one I need to install)
in cavities 10 is a white /blue wire (like I need to install)

Ok now I repeat my question.
I called HDMOCO and told them of the problem cavity 12 goes no where so can't use it. 11 is already used.
They said MAYBE bike was wired wrong at factory.
I asked did they maybe forget to update the cavity numbers in the directions? they didn't know.

So does any tech know the answer to this.
12 goes nowhere on the original harness / connector both sides are blank and plugged.
11 has another wire in it for the radio.
so do I instead pull the wires that are in cavities 9 & 10 and put new wires there or what?
Thanks for any help you can give
Since the answer may be indepth and may require realtime back and forth communication
please answer here briefly and email me if we need to talk on the phone.

Studying this one, may take time.

Well as I said I think two things.
Forgot to include info in directions or up date the info from 98/99 to 00/01 or wires are in wrong pin holes from factory.
directions say be/bk for pin 11 and w/be pin 12
However on the bike harness side of connector there is no wire in pin 12 so it would be useless to put one there on the cruise harness side.
pin 11 on bike side has a w/grn in it, and that traces to the radio
However, pin 9 & 10 on bike side and on cruise side have the correct wires in them per color code.
So I removed those two from the cruise harness connector taped them off, and installed the new ones there. I guess will have to ride and see.
But that may be a month or two down the line.

Another question though on this bike if you don't mind.
When I tore bike down I used masking tape to label all connectors as I unplugged them and used ser man as ref.
Had one that was not labeled from factory so I labeled unknown it did not plug into anything.
Well putting back together, I found this plug in the schematic and is labeled for low fuel module.
But is used only on ultras or fuel injected. this bike is an 01 electraglide classic (flhtci) fuel injected.
I have low fuel warning light on bike and it works. But I don't have module (I looked in all my boxes).
Do I need it for the light to work?
I wrecked this bike years ago, fairing disintegrated, could the module fallen off?)
Thanks for help and respond when you get time I'm not in big hurry.

Glad your were able to figure out wiring. I was going to suggest to solicit the assistance of your dealer. Your "fuel module" question may be related. Is your low fuel indicator in the tach or speedometer? If later model year gauges were used to replace the damaged originals as part of the crash damage repairs, the wiring would have been changed as well. 01-03 models had the low fuel lamp in the tachometer and required the "low fuel module" (basically a relay that turned the lamp on when a set resistance level was indicated from the y/w wire). In 04, the low fuel lamp was moved to the speedometer and eleminated the need for the module and hence your unused connector. This would have required wiring changes to your tach and speedometer which also affect the cruise control as they use similar sources to function. This would also explain why your wire locations do not match the 01 manual. Thank you for your patience on my late reply.

No this bike was never repaired after the crash. I think the low level was in the was in the tach (can see symbol).
I bought it back from insurance company AFTER the crash.
I do NOT have any relays or etc laying around after the disassembly. so maybe it came loose during the wreck. The whole fairing
disintegrated in the crash.
Thanks for the info, but I guess either the included cruise control directions were wrong (not updated) or as they suggested the wires were just in different pins on this bike.
Well when I am all done putting together (maybe in two weeks) will let you know what I happens.
Thanks again no problem on the time, Know you are busy.
