A little confused about the stage I and II factory download maps. I was recently told by another dealer that there is no longer stage I or II dealer downloads for the 2007 models like the previous models (2006 and earlier) and the modifications to FI maps must be made using Race Tuners. When I purchased my 2007 FLHX, I had a screaming eagle air cleaner installed and had them do a stage I download (in preparation of adding pipes later). I had to go back recently to flash a new calibration from the factory to help low RPM response. They told me they had trouble flashing the new flash, had to go back to original stick flash then to new calibrated flash which was suppose to be stage I enhanced. Do you believe they originally gave me a 2006 Stage I flash somehow or just flashed the ECM with just upping the rev limitor. When I picked up the bike, they didn't want to give me the service order with the calibration flash, they said they had to send off all the copies. I am now questioning if I have a Stage I flash at all.

There are "legal" stage cals and there are "race" stg cals. The"legal" cals are available through Digital Technician and are for use with the SE air cleaner and SE 50 state legal mufflers only. "Race" stg cals. are now only available through SE Race Tuner, some were on DT. If your rev limit was raised, then you would have had a stg cal. The "updated" cal would have returned the rev limit to stock. There would be no benifit to install the "update" stock map and then install a stage map, the stg map would write over the "update" stock and would not retain any of it's characteristics. It is my understanding that the new DT "legal" stg cals incorporate the revisions made to the "update" stock cal., so in that sense you would get those benifits. It is not unusual to have to reflash ecm's back to stock when flashing with updates, stg, or SERT maps. Doing so typically corrects VIN recognition and sort of "resets" the ECM allowing it to recieve the new flash or it is done as an ECM recovery process if a flash is interrupted or fails to complete. Dealers can have different policies vs others regarding cal info.
