mike, DOC from H-D of Greenville, just wanted to say thanks for the help thursday by phone. decreasing injector size made all the difference. why, if the SE 50mm t-b has larger injectors would we have to trick the ECM to belive there smaller to have longer pulse width? does happen with all SE 50mm tb's. do you have/used Zippers Thundermax or Daytona twin tech EFI systems. if your shop does not havea dyno, which system would be best to use? Thanks for always coming to the phone to answer all my questions! DOC

We have not used the Zippers or Daytona systems but we are familiar with them. We made a decision a while back to not and try to be experts at all systems but focus on and be as good as possible with SERT and Power Commander.
Though it would be neat to be able to say we are trained and proficient with these other systems, it's just not justifiable to invest the time and energy into systems we may only see in for tuning once or twice a year. The H-D and PC products fulfill our customers needs and we have a number of people here proficient with those systems. We'll leave the others to the Aftermarket shops, it'll be a nice nich for them and offering alternatives is really why they are in business (if a local shop becomes knowledgeable in another system we've choosen not use, we'll recommend them to customers who come our way with those sytems installed or anticipate installing).

Now, to really answer your questions. We've had to change the injector sizing more with the 06L systems than we ever had to in the past with the Weber injectors (05E). More so on motors with cams and heads, not so much with just exh and air cleaners. We've yet to have the injectors flow rated but this is now high on my to-do list (also part of our throttle body project). Shops without dyno facilities may be better off with one of the new self learning systems like the Zippers, Daytona or S&S but the mapping still needs to be within 80% of final as the closed loop can only account for a 20% range (the S&S may be the exception). Each of these requires changing the entire system and can have problems with other componenets and accessories (TSSM, anything on the J1850 bus, auto compression realease, security systems, etc.). Choose one and become VERY proficient with that, then develope a package that includes well developed mapping that can then be installed in bikes along with the rest of that package and then sell only that package. Problem with this approach is that you are trying to force your customers to all buy the same thing when the very reason they are making changes is to be different than everyone else (I figure they'll sell about three of them). We are not selling sameness, just the opposit. Shops that can make every conceivable combo work will be the more successful because they can offer individualism, which is what most H-D owners are after. The entire aftermarket world exists for this reason.
