View Full Version : Comparison between oil filters
Does anyone know where I could find a good comparison of oil filters to fit H-D TC-88 engines? All brands included with some sort of grade to them (best, good, okay, avoid). Thanks. :)
check out pure power.com I use one of their filters on my bike also on my kenworth and my F150. Since finding them I have their fioters on everything and would not use anything else.
Thanks for the reference to PurePower oil filters. I had not heard of them before your reply. However, the price is more than I expected. I'd like to see test results. Know where I could find them? Thanks again.
do some searching on the internet I found results there, they have been widely tested and use the same technology as most of the race cars do. Every bit of oil goes through the filter, none goes through the bypass, they also haver a magnet incorporated into their structure and don't forget you will never have to buy another filter, just service properly. Scary thing being able to see into the filter when cleaning though you will see any metal or grit that your engine has(really helps to avoid a major failure, eg early detection of a problem) I clean the element with gasoline or clean solvent then put it through the dishwasher in the kitchen.
About $ 200.00 USD and here the chrome harley filter retails about $ 24.00 I figure its about paid for in 8 oil changes without figuring the reduced wear on my engine. Tom
Tried to find test results but came up empty. Yes, the filter looks well made and just what I'd like to use. If you could steering in toward test results, I'd appreciate your effort. Thanks.
Several magazines have tests in this months issues on the Purepower filter. I'm somewhat skeptical of some of the hp claims, likely due to the thinner oil used and base runs not fully stabilized (one mag was actually pretty realistic). I do like the idea of buying just one. Do not get too excited about particulets in the filter element (unless a lot), just means the filter is doing it's job, not that anything is neccessarily wrong or failing in the motor.

You may well be right on the power results, but I'm more interested in the filtration. If you (or anyone here) know where I can find test results, I'd sure like to know well before I ever consider a PurePower filter. Until then, I continue to use H-D SuperPremium 5 filters.
