Hi Mike,

My bike is a 2003 Heritage Classic with the Stage II 95" engine. Fuel Injected. The build was done by my selling Harley shop and the full SE exhaust was put on at that time. I wanted to (and still want to) keep the staggered look and since I have customized the bike with (among a long list of other things) adjustable passenger boards, a 2 into 1 will not work anyway. I asked the shop manager about the SE exhaust at the time if it would not be too loud and was told, "it will season nicely". Now 3 years later, the sound level turns everyone's head even when idling and there is not a car garage made where just starting the bike set's off every (and I mean every) car alarm. Believe me, I am not bragging!

So, what maker of pipes offers something for me that won't rob the power but will not rattle the windows? I have heard Bassani bagger pipes, but I don't think they make staggered Softail pipes.

Ideas please?

Thank You!

Mike

When you say "full system" was it more than just slip-ons to the stock head pipes? The new SE 49 state legal slip on mufflers may be the solution but will require that you have stock head pipes. The are much quiter than the old, actually perform pretty good and have a nice deep note. They may be a little lower on top end hp but should be stronger on the low end (2-4k rpm). I can tell you the Basanni's quite probably will be louder than what you currently have.
Thanks, Mike

Thanks Mike,

Yes, the head pipes were also changed at that time of the installation of the SE's. I gave thought to slip-on's. Other than the new 49 SE's, any other considerations?

Again,

Thanks!

That's a tough one. Even with the changed head pipes, the slip-ons should still work so long as your system is also using slip-ons. Unless, by chance, you have an 04 version of the 16 Gauge Double Barrel (part number 64901-02).
I cannot remember if these have removable baffles (they were made by V&H and typically did have removables), if they do you may be able to wrap them with exhaust fiberglass and reinstall. If not, then a complete system may be in order to allow the 49's to be used.
Thanks, Mike
