First off thanks for sharing your time & knowledge with the masses. I am in the middle of a 95 conversion & was wondering if you had any experience with the Wood tw5 or Andrews 32G? I will be using the SE pistons PN#22868-00 & SE heads 16592-06. My biggest fear is possible detonation issues with the compression. Any guidance\advice would be appreciated.
Thank you for using our forum!!! I'm familiar with the TW5 and it's a very good cam. I do believe with your 10.5 compression ratio (advertized for the piston/head combo. you list), detonation will be an issue. The TW5 gives a corrected compression of 9.8. We've found that much over 9.5 can be problematic and tuning is critical. The 32G cams gives corrected pressure of 9.4 which is my personnel ideal for a street application where fuel quality is not always garuanteed.
Thanks, Mike

DAYUM that was fast! Thank you for the quick response. 32G it is. I am attempting to get 100\100 out of this build. I am more concerned with the torque #'s than hp. I have seen plenty of dyno sheets on the TW5 that show it will achieve that. What is your opinion on the 32G? The specs other than actual valve timing are similar. Am i on the right track?
Your 100/100 is reasonable with a good exhaust. The TW5 will give a better torque number due to higher cylinder pressure, but I was taking into account your (and mine) concerns about detonation. If your static (mechanical) compression was 9.8-10.0 (flat top pistons) then the TW5 looks better. The 32g looks better for the 10.5. Altitude also plays a part and for guys in Colorado, they can get away with higher pressures but then have problems when touring into lower altitudes and higher heat (Laughlin, Ca.). The TW5 can be run with higher pressures so long as the tune is spot on (not much lattitude). We do not want a situation where we are forced to tune out detonation because we will effectively be detuning the bike and undoing the investment in performance we just made. In summary, I would run the TW5 with flat tops/SE Performance heads or the 32g with the SE high compression pistons.
Note that the exhaust choice will have a larger impact on the torque curve shape than the cam choice. For your combo and what you are trying to achieve (down low torque) I hope I would not be out of line recommending the Vance and Hines Classic Round slip-ons. Combined with the rest of your package, you will have a very broad curve with good high end power (well within your target numbers).
Thanks, Mike
