Mike, I?ve done a lot of homework in getting my 04 Fatboy engine ready for an upgraded during this winter. It will have the 95? big bore with flat top pistons, SE Heads, SE adjustable push rods, S&S roller rockers, and a Woods 5G (Gear Drive) cam with .575 lift. I had read in the August AIM where you are quoted as saying that new tappets are recommended with over 10000 miles. So I wasn?t going to replace them. Now that my Fatboy just turned over 9000 mile I thought it would be a safe bet. Once I stared doing some research on them I can?t get over the price difference. For a set of 4 from S&S, Jims and SE are going for around $250. Ones from V-Thunder made by Comp Cams along with a set from Feuling are going for under $100 for a set of 4. Are the ones for $250 that much better? I was leaning towards the V-thunder for the price and because who they are made from. Any advice?

Past experiance with the V-Thunder's would indicate that they are just fine. We've had the best luck with the stock H-D "B" lifters. Our experiance has been that the expensive unit's have just as high (if not higher) failure rate than the stock units and therefore are difficult to justify cost wise. Replacing them is really good insurance.
Thanks, Mike

WOW! Stock H-D "B" you say? I don't know why I didn't consider the stock set. I guess I thought that there were better ones out there.

Thanks.
