Mike, I'm doing a 883 to 1200 conversion on an '03 883r. I want to use the S.E. dual plug heads, HD coated high compression pistons, and Andrews N4 cams. My question is: which carb? What would work best for a bike that will be riden not only "enthusiasticly", but also on extended rides. My uncle swears by the S&S Super E, but others swear by the C.V. carbs. The S.E. 44mm carb is the one I had in mind, but I also noticed an upgrade kit for the stock carb that included a lightened slide for quicker response. What would work best with my combination? Thanks in advance for any advice you give.

My vote is for the CV44. With the SE heads, you may have a need for a slightly larger carb than the stock CV40 and the 44 will be more than adequate . The CV is much more "user freindly" vs. the S&S in that it can carburet over a wide range of invironments (I.E. altittude changes), has better throttle response (though just slightly lazyer), will get better fuel milage, will exhibit less reversion (standoff) and has more tuning circuits (finer tunability). The S&S is much easier to tune (only two tuning circuits) and is often favoured for this reason alone. When adding the air cleaner and the Pro Tuning kit (44CV), the S&S is also less expensive vs the CV44.
Thanks, Mike
