2001 sportster

I am looking at this 2001 sportster and there is a noise coming from the transmission like somthing is loose....the guy is telling me its normal is it?

These are notorious for loosening the front motor sprocket nut. Easy fix with a cover gasket, oil and red locktight. Other possibilities are a loose primary chain, damaged chain guide or loose clutch hub nut. All to be checked with the engine sprocket nut. Another pos. could be a loose belt sprocket nut but this is typ heard only when the bike is moving and the throttle is applied, then closed. What is "normal" for one bike may not be at all for another. Typ. we would ask if the noise is "new" or not. It could very well be normal for that bike if it has always been there.
