Mike,

I wrote the following email to T-man. Never got a response. Would like your thoughts or opinion.

Dear Sirs,

I currently have a 107 Axtell TC B motor in my 2000 Heritage

- 107 AXTELLCylinders with-flat top pistons
- 11:1 compression,
- 200 PSI cylinder pressure (front 205)
- Heads ported 1.9 intake & 1.630 high tulip exhaust
- Bob Woods 9FG cams +4 key
- Woods W188 springs
- Mikuni 45
- DTT ignition custom map.
- Two into one D&D stepped header (not the borezilla)
- RevPerformance lifters (new)

Bike runs good except for valve train noise. I am considering a cam change and think the TR-590 may be a good choice. Key is torque to me. The bike currently pulls 115 pounds of torque at 3000 RPM with max out at 118. I believe the TR-590 will deliver a little better down low and certainly be less noisy. I am not sure if the TR-590 will have handle the 11:1 to compression. The one reason I went with the 9fg was for the longer duration. I have never had a detonation problem with the above combo and return oil temps rarely get to 225 to 230 degrees (no oil cooler) no mater how hot it gets here in Virginia. I average 215 degrees in the summer.

I am not looking to change valve springs but just looking for a little more low end torque plus a quieter valve train. Would like your thoughts on the TR-590's fitting that bill and handling the 11:1 compression.

I believe the cylinder pressure will change with the TR-590 just not sure which way.

Kevin

The 590 might be little short on timing with detonation being the result. Possibly the 590 with a -4 key (turn it around in the keyway) may work better but still a concern. Normally I would recommend the TM650 but this would not be enough a change vs the TW9F to be worth the expense and I would not be able to guaruntee it would be quiter (just would not know until installed). Your current cylinder pressure with the TW9FG/+4key/11:1 is pushing the limits and if found at sea level on a hot day you may see your temps get pretty high as the detonation sets in. The 590 will really raise these numbers and honestly I would not install it if this was a customers bike unless we lowered the compression down to 10-10.5:1. Try T.R. again, he may have another take on this but I think he'll agree.
Thanks, Mike

Mike,

Thank you for confirming concerns on Detonation with TM590. As mentioned I live in Virgina not much above sea level. Many times riding at sea level when heading east. Mostly head towards the west though. As mentioned no detonation problems. The custom DDT map I'm sure is helping. We had some 100 degree plus days a few weeks ago with a heat index of 105 to 107 degrees and still no detonation problems. Sounds like this is one of those leave it alone and live with the valve train noise.

Thanks

Kevin
