Mike, first off, great article in the last 2 issues of American Iron. Both issues alluded to the fact that the bypass spring help get rid of the oil blow by problem. I am using one of the 002 springs and have great oil pressure. close to 50psi at 2000 rpms and above even with 230 oil temps. My question is how can it stop blow by? Does not seem like it would have any effect on it, what am I missing? thanks Guest
Actually, your not missing anything. What I missed was that comment when editing the proofs. We do not claim the spring has any affect on blowby (carrryover). There is an argument that adding oil pressure (and hence volume) could casue carryover to be worse, if the problem already existed. The springs purpose in life is to keep more pressure under the hydraulic piston in the lifter to help reduce tappet noise when using higher pressure valve springs with high lift cams. With over 3000 installed, it seems to be working.
Thanks for using our forum, Mike (and good catch on that statement).
