Bought a Road King 2 months ago and have not done anything to it as of yet, except put 3k miles on it. I want to change the pipes to give it a deeper sound and don't know where to start. I have been asking friends and all of them have different ideas on pipes. Any suggestions on researching this?

When researching, consider future plans, riding style/use of the bike, if you want 2-1, true duals, slip-ons or other. The problem with exhaust is that we can only measure the performance differences and cannot quantify things like sound and looks as these are subjective personnel choices. Other things to consider is whether the exh choice has an ECM calibration available or will it require something like Race Tuner or Power Commander (adding to the total cost). Some exh that work well on 88 ci and mildly built 95's do not neccassarily perform well on an aggressive 95 or larger motor (the Thunder header is a good example of this). The best advice I can give is to review our very extensive dyno exhaust library on this web site to get a feel for how different exhausts perform with a variety of motor combo's. To answer questions like yours is precisely why that library is so large. It can be somewhat intimadating due to it's size but you'll find that after just a little review you'll be able to see patterns (especially if exh your considering are listed). If systems you are considering are not listed then we can review those individually (it's impossible for us to have all available listed or test). When wharehouse supplies are expended, H-D will only be offering 50 state legal systems and the associated calibrations. Systems for which cals are not available will require the above tuning devices or similar. Let me know which systems you are considering or are being suggested and I can give my best review of them.
Thanks, Mike
