Hi Mike;

Just on gps (general principles) I thought I would give Baisley Hi-performance a call to see if they thought there is any little thing which might be useful to do to my SE HTCC CNC ported heads. I don't want to leave any stone unturned and all that, don't you know.

Well, Mr. Baisley told me those heads are subject to detonation. Ulp. I had to go have dinner and all during dinner I was thinking about my expensive motor grenading because of detonation.

After dinner I called back and spoke to Mr. Baisley Jr. He told me the same thing; sharp edges causing hot spots and things such as that; plus he told me about valve seats falling out, valves breaking and ruining pistons, and so on; so now I am comtemplating more conversations with Mr. Baisley Sr. if I can catch him early in the day next week; and contemplating sending my jugs and slugs and heads to the Baisley family to see if they can fix them so they don't come apart. Any thoughts on things to ask for?

Do you think I would be wise to abandon the used heads and new pistons and new clys I have and start over? The cases are still apart so I could go to someone else's 117 cu. in. cyls and pistons, and get some dandy heads from Baisley I imagine. Now that I have come this far I don't want to have something put together which is going to be a constant worry because of potential mechanical problems.

Maybe I should stop doing so much investigation but I can't.

David Jackson

I would defer the head questions to Dan Baisley and go with what he suggests. I'm sure they can correct any malidies your heads may have. The detonation issue may be solved by use of the 20 degree pistons since most of those sharp edges are machined out to accomodate the pistons. Pleasure to talk on the phone. BTY, got the Bolo photo's. Thank You!

Hi Mike;

A great pleasure to talk to you as well.

At this point I am just not sure what I am going to do next. The time and money the ideal motor will require may be just too much for right now. I may just have the parts I already own bolted together and ride this season. I am really not sure.

I have recovered from my post. I am going with the 113" for this season, and using the SE HTCC CNC ported heads in spite of all the custom head builders have told me. I ran them last year with no trouble and hope for the same this year. BW is doing the S505 number on the carburetor; and he may come up with a way to move either the carburetor or the air cleaner out of the way of my right knee. I certainly hope so!
