I have a problem. Two local dealers in the area, and two different answers. I want to put SEII slipons on my 06 Dyna WG. One dealer says there is no EFI D/L,and if I just do the slipons, the closed loop EFI system will adjust and I will be good to go. The other dealer says they have a D/L, and the pipes and SE Highflow kit. Performance wise I am happy...........can I just put the slipons on the bike without any EFI mods if I dont use the high flow kit?

There is a lot of mis-information about the "closed loop" 06 Dyna EFI system, (mostly because it is so new). The short answer to which calibrations may be required is that the same rules apply as earlier models.
As I've been told by the factory, the closed loop adjustment capability is approx 20% and as much as 15% may be used up due to manufacturing process differences. This would leave, maybe, 5% possible adjustment to account for changes such as exhaust and air cleaner. We know from Race Tuner mapping that an exhaust change can affect the tuning requirements by much more than 5%! This is why H-D has a recalibration for 06 Dyna's with JUST an air cleaner change and STOCK exhaust (cal 34238-06 D/T)!!!
As in the past, the ONLY H-D recalibration cartridge available for 1450's (88ci) is for an air cleaner only and STOCK EXHAUST(or 49 state legal exhaust). Other cals are available for 1550's with H-D kit combo's and are fine so long as ALL the components used are those for which the cal was designed for. Any deviation form those components requires some sort of additional tuning capability to account for those changes. We like Race Tuner because of it's greater capability and it has other cals not available in cartridge form. For mild applications, such as a 1450 with air cleaner and mufflers (SE or aftermarket) only, Race fueler, TFI or Power Commander may be fine (if no future changes are planned). Note that Race Fueler is not available for 06 models, as yet.
Now, having said all that, I realize that a LOT of bikes are running around with Stage One D/
L's, air cleaners and all sorts of exhaust with apparently no problems. We cannot recomend this because of the knowledge that it is technically incorrect and to be consistant with what H-D would advise.
Last, I also realize that if you do not do the air cleaner this will should restrict the air coming in and therfore the may not require as much of a tuning adjustment. I feel an exhaust change has a greater affect and still requires tuning. Know also that an exhaust change not only changes the amount of air the motor process's but dramratically changes HOW it is processed at different RPM's and load.
