View Full Version : Bolt Sizes and 02 sensors
Mike,
I am installing crash bars onto my 05 Superglide custom, what are the bolt sizes or particulars in installing these? Does Latus stock these, and if so , what part number. Sorry to post here on that but I do also have an exhaust question. On the 06 bikes which I am looking at for my wife, I understand they are using 02 sensors now? Does this mean no more remapping the brain when changing pipes?
No problem using this forum, in fact I encourage it!! :)
I'm not sure if you are using the H-D engine guard kit or an aftermarket and there are 4 H-D kits. The H-D stuff is usually pretty good about including all the needed hardware to install. In any case the hardware for the H-D kit p/n 49007-90A (listed for your bike) follows;
1ea 2879W 3/8-16x1 bolt
5ea 7038 3/8 helical lock washer
4ea 3214 3/8-16x1 1/4 socket head tapping screw
1ea 6701 3/8x7/8x5/64 flat washer
1ea 7783 3/8-16 nut
We have all in stock.
To date, only the 06 dyna uses the O2/closed loop system. All have catalyst mufflers. Many have been speculating (and hopeing) the closed loop system would allow for changes without remapping. At this time we just do not have enough experiance with the new system to know how much latitude the ECM has to remap (learn). Since H-D has released ECM calibrations (through digital tech) for Dyna Stage one/1450 air cleaner kits, this would indicate that the ECM may be very narrowly limited. But, the cal's may also be intended to do other things such as raise the rev limit and/or modify ignition curves vs. the O.E. cal. Remapping using Race Tuner or Power Commander may be enteresting if the O2's are constantly modifying our inputs (remembering the Buell DDFI sytems and Power Commanders). To do this, a mechanism to lockout the O2 input during mapping may be needed (similar to the ability to turn off Knock Sensing in Race Tuner). In the end, I suspect many will try making changes without changing the ECM (we see this currently with pipes and air cleaners on many bikes with stock ECM cal's-not good!) but the correct thing to do will still be to at least recalibrate if not remap (Race Tuner). Mike
Thanks Mike, Yes it is a HD Crash bar but and E-Bay find, sorry couldnt resist the price. I will come in and get the bolts. Thanks for the info on the O2 sensors, it will steer my decision and the wife does love the Softail classic. See you soon.
