View Full Version : 2005 1200 Custom S&S -vs- Screaming Eagle, or......
I have yet to change my factory exhaust on my '05 1200 C, and was wondering what exhaust you'd recommend, if not one of the two mentioned above. I want a different sound but not a obscenely loud one. I like the factory sound but want a little more growl. Also, is it required to re-jet or can I just open up the air a little more to the carb? I am not planning on doing any other mods anytime soon, so I was wondering if I will be ok with not rejetting. If you can, please include some prices for a new set of mufflers. Thanks, Jon
I like those mentioned just for the same reason you mentioned. They sound great, perform great and are not horribly loud. Of course sound (and looks) are subjective and only the owner can decide what they like best. One persons growl is anothers bark!
I did not mention the Cycle Shack slip-ons previously, these would be a less expensive choice but do not perform as well unless the baffle is modified. A better choice would be a two into one complete system like Screaming Eagle, Vance and Hines, D&D or other. As complete systems, they are substaintially more expensive. Last, consider any future performance changes you may have planned when choosing the exhaust, you'll want one that complements those possibilities.
Do not forget the air cleaner to go with the exhaust change, if more performance is what you are looking for. If we allow more air out (exhaust) then we need to allow more air in (air cleaner) to realize the best performance gains. See our "Aero" packages we just listed on this site.
Any change to the bike that allows it to process more air (and make more power) requires a carb recalibration. An exhaust change is the single largest influence on this. Our LMR jet kits include the jets and needle shims to do this for our Aero packages. The adjustment you mentioned is only for the idle circuit (though it does spill over into the midrange up to about 2.5k rpm).
Thank you for visiting our site, Mike
How soon can this be done? How long does it take and can you pick up my bike if I am unable to get it there because of work? Is there a charge for pick/delivery? Is there any variations of exhaust styles(turn-out, bologna, tapered, etc) that I can choose from for this package? Thanks again for the help.
If you call our service dept. service writers, they can give you or schedule a date to have this work done. Normally the bike would be done the same date the bike as recieved for this type of work. That number is 503-542-7552 or 1-800-446-2525.
The pick-up/delivery is currently free, within a 50 mile radius of our store.
For your model year, only the "PRO II" is available in slash down and baloney cut, p/n 80423-04 and 80424-04 ($249.95/pair).
Thanks, Mike
Mike, I didn't see a forum pertaining to general questions. I need a question answered about a rear directional relocation kit for my 05 1200 C. Does Harley make a relocation kit to move the signals back on each side of the brake light, off of the strut bars? Thanks, jon
Jon, this forum is fine. We may want to start a new thread for misc ?'s. To answer your question, yes H-D makes a kit that moves the turn signals to the liscense plate mount p/n 68732-02A. $74.95 and in stock.
Thanks, Mike
Mike,
I talked with Thad, Tuesday, and I am bringing my bike in on Saturday (8-27-05) for the new mufflers, air cleaner kit, etc., and I had a question I forgot to ask him....I notice my bike has a slight rattle that sounds like it is coming from the primary side that I hear at certain speeds. I was wondering if it can be test rode or listened to when I bring it in for the new mufflers to see if I'm just hearing things, or if Harley's are supposed to make these noises. It's my first Harley, so bare with me. Thanks, Jon
Well, Harley's do have their own unique sounds. Let Thad know when you bring it in on Sat. and make sure your concern is noted on the repair order. That way the Tech doing the job will address it as needed.
Thank you for your patronage, Mike
Would it be ok, if I asked you to forward my concern to him so I don't forget again when I show up? If not, that's ok; thanks for the info. Jon
