Mike,

My name is jason from phoenix,az. I have been talking to you on the phone about the ICT system in reference to injector timing. If its not too much trouble I would like to know anything about the ICT system that you are willing to share. I remember you mentioning that this process is still a little experimental but I am very intrigued. Anything you can tell me to help me understand what this system is and how it works would be greatly appreciated.

We are the area distributor for the ICT controller. We currently use it on our AMA racer and are recommending it for the Magneti-Marelli bikes. It costs about the same as a Power Comander and H-D download, but seems to solve a bunch of idle and cold start issues when these bikes that have been modified. Mapping time is about the same as Race Tuner (2.5 hours). It is made by Internal Combustion Technologies, in Colorado. They also offer a Delphi version but we have good results with Race Tuner on these bikes.
We just finished testing on a 95ci/112hp Mag-Mar bike. The ability to change the injector firing angle to match the cam installed does seem to help throttle response and idle quality. It did not appear to have a big affect on HP (we varied from 305 degrees to 355 in increments of 5 with little change in the curve). Conventional wisdom dictates that the correct firng angle for the injectors should be 2 degrees before the intake valve opens and this intuitively makes sense. ICT claims this will really make a difference in the torque curve. Our testing indicated that it does change the curve, but only a little. It may be more dramatic as a function of drivability, which we have not tested (we have yet to actually ride the bike).

I am currently working with Baisley and a set of 06 heads and will be using 20 degree Axtell pistons 10.5/1 and a custom cam that is a gear drive copy of the se251 Supertrap 2into1. Will I need to go beyond a BC Gerolomy bored TB to obtain the results you got on the referanced bike, ball park guess? Does my approach sound well directed? I intend to have you tune it.

We are recommending the Screaming Eagle throttle body P/N 27615-00 for TC MM bikes. It is a complete unit, uses better injectors, has a radiused inlet and corrects the injector targeting issue. So far they have imporved many cold start, idle and drivablility issues which seem to get worse as we push the stock t-body and engine. Along with the t-body you will need Race Tuner or Power Commander USB (tuning is easier vs. the ICT when used with the SE t-body). If the PC is used with the SE t-body, you will need to have the ECM recalibrated because of the injector change. Use cal. I.D. 275CP051 (pn 32040-01). It is for a 103ci config. but this may actually help your setup. If you use the PC with the stock or BC t-body, a recal is not required but strongly recommended (use pn 32106-01, I.D. 270CN001 with these combo's).
Your setup looks excellent but I question the need to use a custom cam to aquire the gear drive and 251 specs. The Wood Auto TW8G cam is very similar to the SE251 with slightly more lift. We've used it in similar setups with very good results. It is one of my personal favorites. IMHO.

I am a little Woods gunshy and very aware of the similar timing. I have had issues quieting them down and I know how to set up the gears and know how to clearance everything. I do use the Baisley/ Latus low end OP spring in what I now build. Maybe I will just use the chain drive and let it go. This bike gets riden about 10k/year. Thanks for the info, and will set up an appointment for the dyno. BTW can I bring it on a trailer right after I fire it and heat cycle a bit?

You've done this before!! Apologies for my lack recognition. Look forward to doing the tune. Yep. trailer's no problem. We would call this a "break-in/tune" and the charge is $300.00. Just $50.00 more than a normal race tune due the added time for cooling between run sets.
